Success of Andra Pradesh’s CLAP scheme is being discussed

DETAILS

What is the full form - Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP)-Jagananna Swachha Sankalpam programme

When was it launched – October 2021

What it aims at –

  • Clean up rural areas
  • Improve sanitation conditions and waste management
  • Increase public participation.

What are the objectives –

  • Door-to-door collection of garbage
  • Segregation of liquid and solid waste
  • Onsite waste treatment
  • Encouraging home composting
  • Make the rural areas free of open defecation( over 13,000 sarpanches have been “strictly instructed” to lead the Open Defecation Free (ODF) campaign)
  • A more complex project involves treatment of sewage water at 582 locations across the state using soil bio-technology treatment, wetland treatment, and waste stabilisation ponds.

Additional Information

What is an ODF plus village - a village which sustains its ODF status, ensures solid and liquid waste management and is visually clean.

NEWS

Union Budget 2022-23 provided for a new scheme, Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East (PM-DevINE) will be implemented through the North-Eastern Council.

DETAILS

  • It will fund infrastructure, in the spirit of PM GatiShakti, and social development projects based on felt needs of the northeast.
  • This will enable livelihood activities for youth and women, filling the gaps in various sectors.
  • While the Central Ministries may also pose their candidate projects, priority will be given to those posed by the States.

CONCEPT CHECK : VIRTUAL DIGITAL ASSETS

“To define the term “virtual digital asset”, a new clause (47A) is proposed to be inserted to section 2 of the Finance Bill.

As per the proposed new clause, a virtual digital asset

  • Mean any information or code or number or token (not being Indian currency or any foreign currency)
  • Generated through cryptographic means or otherwise, by whatever name called
  • Providing a digital representation of value which is exchanged with or without consideration
  • With the promise or representation of having inherent value
  • Functions as a store of value or a unit of account and includes its use in any financial transaction or investment
  • Not limited to, investment schemes and can be transferred, stored or traded electronically.

Non fungible token and; any other token of similar nature are included in the definition.”

Where was Apartheid seen first - 

  • Existed in South Africa and South West Africa (Present day Namibia) from 1948.
  • Characterised by the authoritarian political culture on the basis of white supremacy.
  • Culture of white supremacy ensured that the country was dominated politically, socially, and economically by minority white population of the country.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

  • Establishment of Palestine as the national home of Jews by the Balfour declaration created tension in the region between the Jews and the Arabs.
  • Conflict widened after the 1947-1949 Palestine war. It further increased after Israeli military occupation of Palestinian territories in 1967 after a six-day war.
  • The United Nations has called for “Two State Solution” to end the Israel-Palestine conflicts.
